Flash mob to take place to show UK is serious about cybersecurity

John Bidgood, CTO of Systal, explores three of the key challenges facing IT security teams today amidst this landscape of complexity – and how they can best turn that complexity into clarity

Security Serious Week, as part of European Cyber Security Awareness month in October, has gathered IT security professionals to work together non-gratis to help make the UK safer place to do business online.

On October 1, the first day of Security Serious Week, representatives from industry and government will come together in London to share their best tips on how businesses can be smarter about cybersecurity. The ‘flash mob’ will take place outside Tower Hill tube station at 12.30pm and will be followed by a picnic in the park (or pizza in the pub depending on weather) provided by email and data security company, Mimecast.

Michael Madon, SVP and GM Security Awareness at Mimecast, said: “An initiative like Security Serious Week elevates the importance of the security challenges that UK businesses face on a daily basis. As an industry we need to give employees a compelling reason to care about security and become more resilient against preventable threats. Finding creative ways to offer security training guidance can help drive home the importance of identifying risks and making sound judgements.”

To show their support, participating company representatives, including CISOs, CEOs and security specialists, will hold up banners with their short, sharp tips, printed by Canon, to create a human collage of security advice.

“Canon is extremely proud to support Security Serious Week for a third year,” said Quentyn Taylor, Director of Information Security, Canon Europe, Middle East and Africa. “The security industry often lacks the creativity to get the message out to the masses and this flash mob is an excellent way to make the cause more visual and bring together representatives from all kinds of companies operating in the UK.”
