Fibrus, a rapidly growing broadband provider delivering high-speed services across Northern Ireland and Cumbria, has forged a five-year partnership with telecommunications giant Nokia.
The agreement will see Fibrus deploy Nokia’s advanced Deepfield solution across its burgeoning network, a move aimed at bolstering its defences against cyber threats, optimising network performance, and efficiently managing the ever-increasing demand for premium broadband services in the region.
Following a successful trial period that demonstrated the efficacy of the Nokia Deepfield technology, Fibrus committed to a long-term deployment as it continues its ambitious expansion. To date, Fibrus has successfully connected over 100,000 customers to its fibre network, bringing vital connectivity to nearly 400,000 premises across its operational areas. As this footprint continues to grow, the need for sophisticated network analytics and robust security measures becomes paramount.
“The successful rollout with Fibrus demonstrates the reliability and robustness of Nokia’s technology in supporting the company’s goal of delivering an enhanced customer experience,” said Paul Alexander, Vice President and Country General Manager of UK&I at Nokia.
The Nokia Deepfield solution offers Fibrus critical network intelligence, providing a comprehensive understanding of the data traffic flowing through its infrastructure. The granular visibility will empower Fibrus to identify and mitigate potential issues, optimise the allocation of network resources, and ultimately ensure that its substantial customer base continues to receive a reliable and high-performance broadband experience.
Fibrus is currently experiencing significant network growth, driven by an impressive 50% take-up rate for its Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) services, including ultra-fast 2 Gbps offerings. The inherent scalability of the Nokia Deepfield solution will be instrumental in enabling Fibrus to manage this rapid expansion in a cost-effective manner.
The technology will also provide a solid foundation for the future deployment of even more advanced network technologies, such as 25G, 50G, and 100G Passive Optical Network (PON) standards, ensuring that Fibrus remains at the cutting edge of broadband service delivery.
In 2020, Nokia was selected by Fibrus as a key technology provider to support its mission of delivering high-speed broadband services to historically underserved rural and regional homes and businesses in some of the most geographically challenging areas of Northern Ireland. Nokia has been a crucial provider of access technology and vital resources, enabling Fibrus to build a future-proofed and industry-leading connectivity infrastructure that underpins its entire service offering.
“This partnership allows us to futureproof the digital infrastructure in the areas we serve, maintaining the highest level of service and security for our 100,000-strong customer base,” said Shane Haslem, COO at Fibrus.
